Our client was a female victim of domestic violence who called the police and wound up being arrested instead of her abuser. As a result of Krizman Law’s investigation and representation, she was cleared, her abuser was charged with a felony, and the police performed an internal investigation of officers’ mistakes.

We see this situation a lot: An alleged victim calls police. Once they arrive, the victim decides not to talk because the victim does not want the abuser to be arrested. But then the abuser, in an effort to influence police not to arrest him, claims the alleged victim attacked him. The police then arrest the alleged victim. This is so common, it has a name: “prisoner’s dilemma.”

In this case, our client called the police to report domestic abuse, as she had done in the past. Her abuser had a warrant out for his arrest, but officers who arrived at the scene were unaware of it for some reason. Our client, out of fear, wouldn’t tell police what her abuser did to her. The abuser, on the other hand, made an unfounded allegation against our client. Police then arrested her.

Krizman Law got on the case right away, and showed the prosecutors that the man had a warrant out for domestic abuse and that the police should have arrested him on arrival. This mistake led police to conduct an internal affairs investigation.

Krizman Law helped our client fully describe to authorities the nature of her abuse. As a result, the charges against her abuser were elevated from municipal court to a felony. Our client’s record was closed and sealed.

Krizman Law is known for its relentless pursuit of justice for clients.
